I was considering not going because I knew I'd be super tired and I'd have to wake up early, but thanks to Javi (who kept saying he had no problem getting up and driving me out there) I decided on going. And I'm so glad I did. I was surrounded by thousands of people (literally, I think about 27 thousand people showed up), most of which who either:
-knows someone who is battling BC at this moment
-has known someone who battled and won
-has known someone who has passed away from BC
-OR battled/is battling BC themselves
I was filled with a mix of emotions as I walked through the huge crowd. Anyone who had been directly affected pinned a sheet of paper on their clothing, letting everyone know who they were waking/running for. It was heartbreaking to see the "in memory of" tributes, and it was heartwarming to see the "In celebration of" tributes. I truly felt blessed to not know the trauma and heartache of losing a mother, sister, friend, or any other loved ones from BC.
Of course, there were still random people, like me, who were just out there to support the cause. Since I haven't been keeping up with my working out, I only walked the 5k. But doing so made me realize how much I would have loved to run it instead. I intend on going back to the gym on a regular basis when I get to our new apartment, and then next year I can run :) Special thanks to Casting Crowns, who (with the help of Spotify and a set of appropriately colored pink headphones) accompanied me on the walk for the majority of the time. And extra special thanks to Javi, who supported my decision to walk, got my playlist ready for me on Spotify, took time to drive me out there in the early AM, and who waited for me at the finish line. Not to mention, he opened my new set of headphones that I NEVER would have been able to open on my own ; )
(^a picture of javi and I after I was finished with the 5k. I was so happy I went!)
After that was over, we packed up and headed out to The Woodlands. Payton's dad exchanged some of his travel points to get us a free room at the Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel, which we were VERY thankful for. Since he is an Elite member we got placed on the concierge lvl (top floor) and got free breakfast :)
We wanted to relax so we ordered dinner (and a slice of cheesecake that we ended up leaving UNEATEN in the mini fridge *slaps forehead*) from The Cheesecake Factory and had dinner in bed. After that we went to Hubble&Hudson to get some taffy, and then walked across the street to the theatre to watch The Perks of Being a Wallflower. We were both really excited about the movie because when we were in high school we both read this book and LOVED it.
Sunday we laid in bed till checkout, then came back home. Javi gave my car a much needed oil change, I clipped some coupons, then we headed out to Target. I gave him two coupons to use and he got a thing of Axe hair styling gel and a thing of Axe shampoo for under 3 dollars total :) My oh my, I'm SO ready to coupon again!
THEN Monday was pretty eventful too. It was:
-My sister's 20th birthday
-Javi's first day of work at his new job
-AND our 10 month anniversary!
After work we headed out to IHOP for dinner, the Katy Mills mall to find shoes for Jav (no luck there), and then went on a search to find A&W to get Jav a root beer float (no thanks to Google Maps which told us that the closest one was out near 45 and spring when we both knew there was one in Katy....)
Soooo yeah. That's pretty much it!
Until next time,
Tiffany <3
"Oh what I would do to have
The kind of strength it takes to stand before a giant
With just a sling and a stone
Surrounded by the sound of a thousand warriors
Shaking in their armor
Wishing they'd have had the strength to stand"
-Casting Crowns "Voice of Truth"
(One of the many songs I listened to over and over again as I walked the 5k. This will also surly be on my playlist when I go back next year and do the run. I would say its one of my favorites, but that wouldn't really mean much since I love almost every single song by Casting Crowns. Something about them just makes me feel so calm, happy, and inspired. If I had to choose to listen to only one band/singer for the rest of my life, I wouldn't have to think twice before choosing them. Javier knows my obsession with CC and bought us tickets to go see them in concert. Needless to say, I was beyond thrilled.)
